Okay, I normally wouldn't do this, but I'm assuming most of you will be watching at least some of the Olympics which start next weekend, so I'm showing off my home province. Let's see how many of the famous faces you recognize. Yes, they are all BC natives.

Check this out.

I had no idea Michael J. Fox was Canadian.

Didn't you know that, Rachel? Wow. Yeah. He is.

B.C. is gorgeous. I only saw one tiny corner of it once, a long time ago, and the corner I saw is an island, but fabulous. Just fabulous. The folks and I took the ferry across from Washington to Victoria on Vancouver Island. Spent the day. Went to the Gardens. Dad and I took a seaplane ride, and encircled the entire island. The whole thing is green, covered with trees.

Yes, Asa, you definitely can visit. I think our geography would be similar to yours.

Laura, you're referring to Victoria. That's where we honeymooned. It makes an appearance in the video with the Empress hotel. Rachel, you would *love* Victoria. I will happily play tourguide for you. Smile

Actually, some of those famous faces in the video are "transplants": Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) was raised here, but born in England; Sarah McLaughlan (sp) is from Halifax (I think) but moved out here when she was young. The others in the video are: Ryan Reynolds (starred in the Proposal with Sandra Bullock and is married to Scarlett Johannson), Eric McCormack (Will from Will and Grace), and Steve Nash (two time NBA MVP.

Yup. The city of Victoria is gorgeous. I *thought* I recognized that hotel! It's stunning. Mom stayed in that hotel when she was a teenager. She did a coast-to-coast rail tour with her aunt, and that's when they were there.

Yes, the Empress is lovely. One of these times I'm over there, I'm going to have high tea at the Empress; that's something I've never done. I have, however, eaten in the other restaurant there, the Kipling Room (yes, it's named after Rudyard Kipling).

I seriously had no idea he was Canadian! I'm one of those that just fails to think of Canada as a "foreign country". Probably because it's so close and we all speak English.

As a Canadian, I appreciate that attitude, Rachel. At the Peace Arch border crossing, there is (you guessed it) an arch that's inscribed with the words, "Children of a Common Mother." I figure the more we know about each other -and the rest of the world - the better off everyone is.

I draw the line at the Olympics though. If it comes down to Canada vs. the US in hockey, I hope Canada kicks butt. Rolling on the floor laughing

Michael J. Fox is the only one I knew was Canadian. No clue about all the others. It is a breathtakingly beautiful place.
